The race, the run
is over
Standing to catch your breath
You are amazed that
Despite the hours, days and years
of running
You are still in the same place
Only you are looking in a
different direction.
You are tired, yet filled
with energy
Eager to take the next step
But cautious of mistake or failure
You are overtaken by emotion
of shame
Have these years of running
been a waste of time?
This question disappears
vanishes
The walk is ahead of you
And the pathway is inviting
You have a companion this time
a friend
Looking closer you recognize this friend
as the one who has been cheering you on.
All along the way
by your side
Only you had been too concerned
With winning the race
To stop and get to know this friend
Who stands arms open
Longing to embrace you
The runner.
You look closer
there are others
Standing along the pathway
Offerring you a hand, a smile
Wishing you luck and peace
for the walk ahead
Some share concern, but
offer a hug and a kiss.
As you begin to lift
you foot
The first step seems impossible
Every possible emotion is flowing
You glance back several times
partly hoping for a reason to stay
Mostly looking for the love and
Friendship that makes this step possible.
This journey is one that
will last a lifetime
Nothing will remain the same for you
And there will be bumps and crashes
But the voice deep inside,
Reassures you and guides you.
The outside voices offer advice and
Encouragement that keeps you on
the pathway that lifes ahead.
